Can you believe the world we live in? well, it is obvious we, the poor low and middle classes, are being ripped off at every corner while big corporations have become monsters we should get rid of.

Software engineering

Software engineering

I keep going back to my background as software developer and I can't but see all the faults on the design of solutions like this morning on the underground where all the screens were blue (Windows) and no train information was available, clearly a problem of Q&A but hey, we live in a world of rapid prototyping rather than software engineering don't we?

It will be expensive in the long run, that is for sure.

Quality

Quality

Oh dear, can´t believe people don´t learn that good quality products are always cheaper in the long run than those fake-crap imports, and again, how difficult is to explain you want products that are meant to live forever?
Not only that, nowadays in this fast manic society where we discard products non-stop a new wave of consumers have been educated to fully expect faulty products that next season will be anyway thrown to the bin. But then again will be fun to see when they are discarded as products too on their jobs, sure they understand the culture of fast consumption will apply to their abilities too, oh man I am going to have a lot of fun there.

Outsourcing everything

Outsourcing everything

Seems the pressure is mounting in many industries to outsource, amongst those is ours? well, I personally believe this happens when this is considered a commodity which is just wrong.

Philosophically I have a problem with it because it means we have to give our know-how that we haver develop for 20+ years, we have to give our projects, our money, our some of our best talent (to run the supervision) which ultimately will end up in the same situation that has already happened in the 2D industry. We can't give them our ethics, culture, approach to life which I believe is key to produce our work so how is this working? Well established companies overseas that produce every single episode of animation at a fraction of the cost with huge labor resources while the production companies in London/Paris/Barcelona/Madrid are nothing but a 3 guys office, now we don't have animators. Furthermore, the quality is horrid and in a world where cheap is paramount we have accepted mediocrity, and this can't be good.

Let's see where we are in respect to our work and China, now almost all the manufacturing of the planet is concentrated in one country that drives demand for resources at an incredible pace and the prices too, a country that has the money as we are year after year sending billions to China and of course, a grim future for our children. In a way we have created the new leader of the world, the most powerful nation is no longer USA, it is China and we depend on them.

Finally, if you are about to go to work for a company make sure you know their outsourcing policies and that you are comfortable with it, if you are not, go or you will be part of the ones that are creating this monster, but then again this may be already too late.

Seems to me people don't realize how different another culture can be, which leads me to think outsourcing is a really bad idea unless you look on the very short term and run with the money afterwards of course.
