The whole 64 bits is such a mess no wonder nobody really is upgrading to it, specially in Linux where there is not an orchestrated effort from both commercial manufacturers and the open source community you can find yourself using product X for 32 bit and product Y which only works on 64 bit, plus product Z which only works with that particular distribution who by the way is incompatible with product X and Y.

A pretty grim future in my opinion apart from data centers and render farms I am afraid.
